Karunashram is home to various animals. Every animal has a story to tell. The white calf with its face distorted is dead today after battling for its life. The distortion was caused by firecrackers that exploded in its mouth. The two monkeys are SIV (+), which is the equivalent of HIV (Aids) in humans. They were rescued from truck drivers who had injected them with drugs for sedation. Our deer and peacocks were kept in captivity before they were abandoned at Karunashram.The crocodiles have weak legs which was caused due to the legs being tied during transportation to West Bengal. Crocodile meat is eaten there in the belief that women become fertile by doing so. The cows were being sent for slaughter as they had outlived their usefulness. The little pups were picked up from a garbage dump. The pup in the sling was run over by a car and left to suffer by the roadside. Many other such stories can be told.
